There are many ways to display news both visually and what sort of news you want to show. 

News tagging is always good practice as it allows for more control.  Eg If you are tagging news ' Eco News' that means you can edit a News widget's settings, telling it to only display news that's tagged 'Eco News' on the 'Eco' page.

i.e. relevant news on relevant pages.
